How it started...

A few years ago, after unpacking my groceries, I found myself surrounded by a sea of grey plastic bags.  What a mess!  Of course, I started to inspect them for re-use, but if a bag had a hole in it, it went straight in the bin.  Unfortunately, all but two had holes in them.  I felt so guilty putting so many plastic bags in the rubbish, and it got me thinking, surely there was a better way...

I thought of my sister in Adelaide with her tower of reusable bags in her garage.  The plastic bag ban was already in place, but she was always forgetting to take the big, bulky bags shopping with her, and found herself purchasing new bags each time.

I thought of the little reusable shopping bag I carried in my handbag and how it had started to fall apart as soon as I had dared to put heavier items in it.

It was a real light bulb moment.  I would make my own reusable shopping bag!  But where to start?  I wasn't planning on redesigning the wheel.  I just wanted a reusable shopping bag, that was compact, convenient, strong and yes, as a sucker for pretty things, I wanted it to look good too!

I started investigating what the strongest fabric was that also wasn’t bulky.  Questions spun around my mind.  How could I make the seams stronger? What would I call it? What would it look like?  I headed off to my local fabric store to buy material.  Inspired and determined, I rushed back home, set up my sewing machine, pulled out my pattern making equipment and got to work!  I experimented with smaller compact bags, large bags, different shapes, various handle designs, until I perfected my design...and finally...Goodi Bagg was born!

From the conception of my idea, four years passed until its launch....for one bag!  Yes, it took that long!  It was a journey, that is for sure, with so many challenges, from securing a manufacturer that could follow my specifications, finding the energy to keep going, disappointment after disappointment, to colour choice and logo design.  Every tiny detail, which you may not even notice, has taken hours, days, months and now years...As the saying goes, good things take time.  Goodi Bagg is the result of a great deal of product research, sewing, market research, number crunching, charity donation enquiries, more sewing, admin work, the list goes on.  The result….a product I am so very proud of in every way.  Its positive impact on the environment, its quality, the ability to use it as a means to raise funds for charities, not only does it look good, it does the job too!

Goodi Bagg will continue to grow, evolve and learn from its users.  New concepts are already being developed...This is only the beginning!

The first of many prototypes... a keyring, but how? Goodi Bagg evolved with each new sample...
